Easy hike from Chäserrugg via the Gamserrugg to the Gamsalp cable car
April 24, 2020
The Gamserrugg (emphasis on -rugg) or Gamser Rugg is a mountain in Toggenburg in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. Its name refers to the chamois that used to live there.
On the ascent from Wildhaus to the Gamserrugg, it is always worth taking a look back. Säntis, Schafberg and Altmann dominate the Alpstein massif and the Gamserrugg also offers beautiful views elsewhere. On the summit itself, the Toggenburger and Alpstein sides almost completely disappear, but it opens up a wonderful view over the Glarus Alps.
The Geological Circular Trail with many information boards leads around the Gamserrugg, which can be walked from the beginning of July to mid-October, depending on the snowmelt.
