Here is the Janusz Korczak School - today the Bullenhäuser Damm memorial. The school has a sad history: shortly before the end of the war, the NAZIS turned the school into an external unit of the Neuengamme concentration camp. On April 20, 1945, 20 Jewish children, 2 Dutch nurses, 2 French doctors and 24 Soviet prisoners of war were hanged by SS men in the basement. This atrocity was intended to cover up the fact that medical experiments were carried out on the children. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gedenkst%C3%A4tte_Bullenhuser_DammIn 2018, the Billebogen development company, a subsidiary of the Stadt HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, which owns this school, which aims to develop the Billebogen in terms of quality and diversity, erected four information boards on the schoolyard at the back of the building in 2018 about the history and perspective of the school and its immediate surroundings as well as about their development work around the Billebogen. What you can read sounds exciting, future-oriented and will certainly enhance the Billebogen. He desperately needs it.

On the street of the same name in what was then Hamburg's Billwerder Ausschlag district (now part of Rothenburgsort) is the former Bullenhuser Damm school building, in which the SS committed a cruel end-of-war crime on the night of April 21, 1945: twenty children and their carers were in the basement of the Building that had served as a subcamp of the Neuengamme concentration camp during the war was murdered. The school reopened in 1948 and was named after Janusz Korczak in 1980. Since then there has been a memorial, and since 1987 the building has no longer been used for school purposes. Today the former school building is used as a kindergarten by the Finkenau Kindergartens Foundation.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullenhuser_Damm
