Formerly horizontally deposited layers in the most varied of colors have been folded intensively in the course of mountain building and Crete's folding up. Due to weathering and erosion as well as the different resistance of the rock layers, the harder layers have been prepared and now form impressive reliefs. I was particularly fascinated by the trunk fold, where the embedded softer rocks were completely eroded away, leaving a delicate natural archway. The description of my Crete travel guide "the geological wonder of Agios Pavlos" is absolutely correct!
