Very touristy. Middle class catering available. Parking nearby. Good starting point for hikes.
In summer you can swim here.

The Guckaisee is located in the valley between Eube, horse head and Wasserkuppe. So you can plan it with every hike in the area. The lake is divided into two parts. On the one hand, the lake invites you to take a dip with the diving platform Lawn. On the other side is fished. A nice spot between the mountains.

The Guckaisee is a small lake in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park approx. 4 km east of Poppenhausen and is located in the Rodholz district.
It is located in the bottom of a valley between Eube in the south and Pferdskopf in the north, while the Wasserkuppe in the northeast rises 2 km away. It is the only naturally formed lake in the Rhön; the stream was probably dammed by a landslide. Especially on the southern slope of the horse head you can see the rock masses. The lake is fed by the Lütter, which rises about 700 m to the northeast. It used to be used as a fish pond and to make ice for breweries. The Guckaisee is now divided into two parts: the lower part is used as a bathing lake, the upper part is used by a fishing club and entry is prohibited. The water quality of the lake was classified as “excellent” in 2014 by the EU. These offers as well as the existence of a nature trail and the restaurant Guckai-Stuben make it a popular hiking destination in the Rhön. The extra tour "Guckaisee" of the Hochrhöner leads past the lake. [1] The Guckaisee is the largest natural lake in Hessen. (... from Wiki)

It's best to pack your bathing suit on nice summer days so that you can jump into the cool water after a mountain hike.

A great option for a short break! Either a picnic by the lake or a break at the nearby inn.

Friday morning at 9 a.m., nothing going on, huge parking lot, empty. What can be going on here on a nice weekend? The size of the parking lot suggests nothing good. Still a good starting point for a lap over the horse head and the Wasserkuppe.
