The Pferdskopf is an 875 meter high former volcano in the Rhön. The Pferdskopf is a foothill and side mountain of the 950 meter high Wasserkuppe and offers a very nice panoramic view over the Rhön from its summit. On the one hand you can see Heidelberg and Kreuzberg very well, on the other hand you can see the Fulda valley and the city of Fulda. The peak of the Pferdskopf is unforested and rocky.

The paths on the high plateau between Wasserkuppe and Pferdskopf involve some ups and downs, but they are not a challenge for the average hiker. In early summer, the blooming mountain meadows are impressive. In winter you can have to "fight your way" through heavy snowdrifts. But it gets most exciting (from the direction of the Wasserkuppe) when you have passed the horse's head and continue to the wild rocky cliffs with their wide view.
