The Aschau rises as the Drellebach in a 4.7-kilometer-long dry valley that is sunk into the southern slope of the forest-covered Lüß plateau in the southern heath. After 1.8 kilometers, the stream feeds the Loher Teiche, which were artificially created in the 1890s. From the confluence of the almost parallel Daller Bach coming from the left, the stream is called Aschau.
