The Aschau rises as Drellebach in a 5 km long dry valley that is sunk into the southern slope of the wooded Lüß plateau in the southern heath. After 1.8 kilometers, the stream feeds the Loher ponds, which were artificially created in the 1890s. From the confluence of the almost parallel Daller Bach coming from the left, the Bach is called Aschau.
