The merchant Gustav Thieme from Dortmund acquired the right at the source in the Bornwiese and at the source at the Rothen Berge zu Pömbsen in 1858. Until it was recognized as a public limited company, the Commandit-Gesellschaft Hermannsborner Verein ran the business. Thieme was director here for over 50 years. He then sold the company to the landlord Hermann Böckmann, who ran the company without luck. Due to the First World War and the subsequent economic crisis, the sale of sparkling water was almost impossible. The Böckmann family gave up in 1924 and the Barmer Ersatzkasse took over what was then Bad Hermannsborn GmbH in order to operate a spa and recreation facility here.

The park in the valley of the Emmerkebach is about 20 hectares in size, around 1860 the use of the springs for mud baths for drinking and bathing began. The neo-baroque style of the spa park began in 1924, with the eastern and western areas being landscaped. A small oak grove on the east side is accessed by a bypass, the undergrowth consists of azaleas and rhododendrons, which offer a colorful picture in the flowering period.
