In 1193, residents of the knight's seat on Vorhelm built a private church. It was consecrated to St. Pancras, a patron who was particularly popular with the knights. In 1193 the bishop elevated the Vorhelmer private church to a parish church.
It is unknown when the "Old Church" was built. It is only known that the church was consecrated in 1521 and that it was a Romanesque church. It was destroyed by fire in the Thirty Years' War and reopened in 1655.
Since the old church had become dilapidated and too small, it was demolished in 1891. On October 25, 1893, the "new church" was consecrated. It is twice as long and twice as wide as the “Alte
Church". It was built in the neo-Gothic style. The high altar and the side altars of the church were dismantled on June 9, 1969 in the course of renovation measures, the high altar is now in the St. Antonius Church in Herten.
