The second largest of the three dams around Ennepetal. It serves as a drinking water dam for the Hagen area and was built around the turn of the century.

The Hasper Dam is a drinking water dam. The dam consists of quarry stones and offers a beautiful view over the Hasper dam. Located on the edge of the Sauerland, it is also a popular destination for joggers, walkers and Sunday excursionists.

The Hasper Dam is hidden in a tranquil valley in the triangle between Hagen, Ennepetal and Breckerfeld and in the area of the formerly independent town of Haspe. The dam dams up the Hasperbach to form an approximately 19-hectare reservoir and is primarily used to regulate discharge and supply drinking water. At that time, the demand for drinking and service water grew enormously, especially for the growing number of residents and industry. On the other hand, recurring floods caused problems. The dam wall, inaugurated in 1904, is about 30 meters high and about 260 meters long. The two round turrets at the ends and the Art Nouveau parapet are particularly striking. Both of these were originally located somewhat more in the middle and were implemented as part of a dam renovation in the early 1990s. There are two handwheels in their old place as a reminder. At the northern end of the dam, high water flows noisily into an overflow and through numerous cascades to the bottom of the valley. The plans for the dam come from the well-known architect Otto Intze (1843-1904), who designed not only dams but also water towers. An Intze water tower is not that far away from here in the former railway depot in Dahlhausen and today's railway museum in Bochum and can be visited there.

An approximately 3.5 kilometer circular route leads over the top of the wall and around the entire lake, which can be easily circumnavigated in a good hour. The path is also often used by cyclists and joggers. However, recreational use of the water is restricted due to its use for drinking water. The lake is fenced and cannot be used for swimming, beach bathing or diving. In many places, small streams flow rippling into the lake, and benches in many places invite you to take a break with a view of the lake and the wooded mountain slopes. The benches facing the sun at the flood overflow in the north, where the water flows noisily and calmingly over the concrete edge, are particularly popular.

Unfortunately fenced in at least on the north side, so that even dogs don't get any refreshment in hot weather. This is not a problem in other drinking water production areas...

Many benches invite you to unwind.
