Dauchstein Castle near Binau is said to have been built around 1030 as a customs castle for shipping on the Neckar. According to tradition, the tolls were collected with the help of a chain stretched across the Neckar, which was only lowered (thawed) after the required customs duty had been paid, hence the name Dauchstein.
