The first written evidence comes from 1573, archaeological finds suggest that the chapel was built in the 13th century in connection with the fortified Selikum knight's residence. The chapel may have been originally a church belonging to the chivalrous family of Selincheim.

The St. Cornelius Chapel is a Roman Catholic chapel in the Selikum district of Neuss. The first written evidence comes from 1573, archaeological finds suggest that the chapel was built in the 13th century in connection with the fortified knight seat Selikum. It is possible that the chapel was originally a separate church of the knightly Selincheim family. Since 1628 the Cornelius pilgrimage was looked after by Jesuits. After severe damage during the Second World War, the chapel was restored in 1950 in neo-Romanesque forms.
