At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish council decided to demolish the 1781 church, except for the chancel, but the First World War and the period of inflation prevented this for the time being. In 1921, the organ was dismantled and the church tower demolished. The bell, dating from 1522, was taken to the nuns' house, where a temporary church was built. In 1922, the old church was demolished except for the chancel. The foundation stone was laid on August 10, 1923, the topping-out ceremony took place on August 29, 1923, and the consecration took place on September 1, 1924. The church was built according to designs by Arthur Kickton, who also served as the overall director together with Karl Haubach. The detailed designs were drawn up by the government architect Reisel.
