Old Center of Germany (Flinsberg)

This center point represents the point for which the sum of the distances to evenly distributed points on the state border is the smallest.It is located at one point on Picksweg, approx. 200 m south of the main street in Flinsberg (Heiligenstadt, LK EIC in Thuringia).
There, an information board about this central point of Germany was placed on a prominent stone.
In some publications this point is referred to as the “old center of Germany”.
A center of this type cannot, however, be determined very precisely for Germany, since the exact distribution of the measuring points at the state border is very problematic. A very tangled part of the boundary draws this center point more closely to itself than a straight part due to its relative length.
