In the Studerbildschacht, the Karlsruher speleological research group conducts research in a 50 meter deep natural shaft in the sandstone. The Studerbildschacht was accidentally discovered in 1916 when picking blueberries. The cave was created by the special tectonic conditions in the area of the Upper Rhine Graben. He has in 22 meters depth only an opening of about 30 x 50 cm. The largest room in the Studerbildschacht is called Pfälzer Halle and measures a size of 5 meters long, 3 meters high and one meter wide.

A 50m deep natural sandstone cave. No, you can not go in there. It really is a hole in the ground.hfgkarlsruhe.lima-city.de/wiki/forschung/studerbildschacht
