Schloss Burg (also Schloss Burg on the Wupper) is a reconstructed from the late 19th century hill castle in Solingen district Burg an der Wupper. The plant was since the 12th century, the ancestral castle of the Counts and later Dukes of Berg and is now the landmark of the Bergisches Land. At the same time, it is one of the largest castles in West Germany and the largest reconstructed castle in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the High Middle Ages, the facility was one of four county mountain. Until the 14th century, it functioned as the main residence of the Counts of Berg, but lost this position under Wilhelm II of Berg in 1380 to Dusseldorf. Schloss Burg was later used as a hunting lodge by the ruling family, who had meanwhile been elevated to the ducal estate, before Schloss Benrath was built at the gates of Düsseldorf in the 1660s. As a result of the Thirty Years War dragged and used until 1807 only as the seat of a Bergisch waiter and judge

Schloss Burg - a classic in the long list of excursion destinations in the Bergisches Land region - is also the starting point of the Wupperberge Trail Marathon, a private invitation run for approx. 42km and approx. 1500 altitude increases. The GPX track of this beautiful, very exhausting Traillaufs invites you to run after for more experienced trail runners ;-)

Unfortunately there is a lot of construction work going on in the inner courtyard at the moment...
