There's something to be amazed at here: One of the few remaining rain bogs is allowed to flourish here undisturbed. Unique flora and fauna, easy to explore on a boardwalk.

I like these paths and footbridges again and again.
This one especially because it offers a clear view of the Holy Mountain.
Watch out for rain and snow. Slip risked.

On the Goetheweg in the direction of Brocken you reach the "Great Torfhausmoor", which you can explore over a wooden walkway. This is the headwaters of the Radau, a tributary of the Oker, in which the moor was formed around 3,000 years ago and reached its present size. The Große Torfhausmoor is one of the oldest raised bogs in the high Harz.

There are different rounds that you can hike. From 2km to 4km to the Brocken.
Torfhaus is recommended as a starting point. There are parking spaces, restaurants and toilets.
The paths are only partially suitable for prams.

There are several seating options on the wooden staircase that leads across the moor to linger in order to provide a great view of the Brocken with the high moor in front of it.

Here on the Goetheweg you always have great views of the striking Brocken summit. Either as motivation when climbing the Brocken or as a review of a beautiful tour when descending towards Torfhaus.
