The Eike von Repgow family was first mentioned in a document in 1156 and was named after a small village, today's Reppichau. The family probably came to the Serimunt region shortly before that.

It was not until the early 13th century that a wave of written customary law began. One of the most important and most widely used written law books was the "Sachsenspiegel". Its author was Eike von Repgow. It is assumed that he wrote the "Sachsenspiegel" between 1220 and 1235.

The commissioner for the writing was probably Count Hoyer von Falkenstein. At least he arranged for the German translation of the original Latin text, which has been lost.
