The 1.50 m high ring wall from the 12th century was used to monitor the Rennstieg that runs here and the ravine below (Gehlenbergweg). In the absence of today's high forest, there was a direct line of sight to both paths, as well as to Winzenburg. The rampart, with a diameter of 72m, served as a base for state and castle protection. Numerous finds such as arrowheads, daggers, horseshoes, belt buckles and iron clips confirm this.
