An information board here commemorates these historical events.
The municipality of Lassahn is located on the eastern shore of Lake Schaalsee and includes the village of Lassahn as well as the districts of Techin, Stintenburg, Stintenburger Hütte, Bernstorff, and Hakendorf.
The municipality was first mentioned in the Ratzeburg Central Register in 1230 and has been continuously inhabited since then. The inn in Lassahn was first mentioned in 1735 and for a long time served simultaneously as the village blacksmith, post office, and shop.

Its location in the immediate vicinity of St. Abundus Church, first mentioned in 1200, is unusual, and the lake-view terrace is unique. During the Nazi era, the nearby town of Zarrentin, connected by railway line, and Lake Schaalsee, as a large body of water, were of strategic importance. The remains of the large tank farms from the Second World War can still be seen near Bantin today.

After the German defeat, Lassahn, which had traditionally always belonged to Ratzeburg, was assigned to the Russian occupation zone as part of a territorial swap, which involved a hasty relocation of residents to the west and new settlement. Lassahn continued to develop during the GDR years.
The restructuring of agriculture into large-scale operations and the border crossing directly within the municipality's territory along the lake shaped the townscape. The border troops' facilities and the border fortifications, which were increasingly fortified over the years, are still clearly visible in many places today.

The 24-square-kilometer Schaalsee Lake was virtually inaccessible to the residents of Lassahn during these years. The formerly impermeable border between East and West ran right through the Schaalsee. Only the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 changed this, transforming the lake into a recreational area with growing regional popularity, which once again significantly changed the image of Lassahn. Lassahn is located in the heart of the UNESCO Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve.

This way you get to the Bernstorfer Binnensee, part of the Schaalsee, if not completely accessible. It only goes to the former column path.
Bernstorf belonged to Schleswig-Holstein after the Second World War. This changed with Gadebusch's treaty on the exchange of prayer, which was concluded in 1945 in England between England (signatory Major General Barber) and the Soviet Union (signatory Major General Ljatschenko) in Gadebusch.
