Trachyte, latite and basalt were formed in the Siebengebirge for centuries
mined, all volcanic rock. The quarries almost took over the region
    destroyed.
The Nasseplatz, an open quarry a little below the
Margarethenhöhe is named after the then President of the Prussian Rhine Province, Berthold von Nasse.
The President had even organized a boycott of basalt from the Siebengebirge, and many Rhenish towns took part. As developers in the construction of roads and paths, the Rhine Province and the cities were major buyers.
The area was also a popular barbecue area until 2015, but it has been closed since then - due to falling rocks.

A remarkable rock circle made of trachyte, a younger effusion rock. There is a plaque on the rock wall for K.H. Eschweiler, the long-time managing director of the Beautification Association for the Siebengebirge.
