According to a fable, a rider and his horse have perished here in the swamp.

      The legend of the Reiterbrunnen

In the lonely and uniquely beautiful Kirrberger valley (1), in the Lambsbach valley, where the Käshofer road crosses the valley, the famous Reiterbrunnen lies on the right bank upstream.

But let us hear what the legend has to say:
In the stream that flows through the valley, an elongated, round extension of the bed is called the 'Reiterbrunnen'. This is said to have taken its name from the following incident. When Gallas invaded the Westrich after the Battle of Nördlingen in the Thirty Years' War, one of his officers was tracked down and pursued with important reports by a detachment of riders from Duke Bernhard of Weimar. The chase came up the valley, and the beleaguered officer was just about to cross the stream and get into the protective forest. Then his horse unfortunately jumped into the stream bed, and man and horse immediately sank before the eyes of the pursuers.

It is also said that the rider suddenly saw three white figures who waved to him from the dangerous spot and that he followed them to his doom. When investigations were later carried out, they still did not find solid ground in the swampy valley floor, even with seven meadow trees placed on top of each other.
