A deed of approval of Duke John of Brabant in 1297, of the sale of a water mill by Wouter van Hollaken to Boudewijn van Echove and Daniël Bouchout, mentions the privilege of building a lock on the Senne; afterwards the Bouchouts became sole owners and in 1360 the mill with lock was donated by Jan Wijtvliet to the abbey of Grimbergen; around 1500 he sells them to the city of Brussels.
