The "Holy Cross" has stood in the former Teutonic Forest between Stuppach and Assamstadt for more than two and a half centuries. It was donated in 1753 by the high and German master Clemens August, Duke of Baiern and Elector of Cologne and built in the Stuppach Forest near today's Eybhütte.

Over the centuries, a small pilgrimage site was developed from this, which the population liked to visit. There is even talk of surprising healings after a visit.

In addition, the place was the destination of many processions from the surrounding places, especially on the "hail holiday", which was always celebrated on the day after Ascension Day. But Wendelinustag and Pentecost were also popular dates for a long time.

A comprehensive renovation was carried out in 1950. Instead of a dilapidated wooden housing, shell limestone walls were raised on both sides, flanking the cross with the Teutonic coat of arms. A protective canopy keeps the rain away from the baroque cross. In place of the devotional benches, which were badly damaged by the weather, there were rustic benches made of oak logs, which were renewed for the 250th anniversary in 2003.

Today the cross is on state territory, as the Teutonic Order Forest, as is well known, fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg when the order was dissolved by Napoleon in 1809.

Really a special place. The old German gentlemen will already have their reason to choose this place.
