Plans for this dam, which was intended to protect the towns along the Nagold River from flooding, were already in place at the beginning of the 20th century. However, it took another 65 years before groundbreaking took place. The Nagold Dam was finally put into operation in 1971. Of course, the Nagold Dam, which holds approximately 5.6 million cubic meters of water, can do much more than just protect against flooding. It balances water levels during prolonged droughts and generates environmentally friendly electricity – thanks to a turbine at the foot of the dam.
