Best Hikes to Nagold Reservoir (Nagoldtalsperre)

Tips

  • The long loop is approximately 6 km. If you take the shortcut over the bridge, it's approximately 4 km. The entire route is paved. You can stop for refreshments halfway through at Seeheimer or at the Seekiosk in Erzgrube.

  • According to Wikipedia, "The Nagold Dam (also known as Erzgrube) in Baden-Württemberg, built between 1965 and 1970, serves to protect against flooding and raise low water levels in the Nagold Valley. It is located in the Freudenstadt district and was put into operation in 1971. The nearest town is Seewald-Erzgrube. Its location in the middle of a 650-hectare landscape conservation area in the Black Forest makes the dammed Nagold Reservoir a popular local recreation area. Sailing is permitted on the reservoir from April 1 to September 30. The dam has a forebay dam about 800 m above the head of the dam."Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/NagoldtalsperreVery beautiful, it's a shame the water level is very low.

  • Plans for this dam, which was intended to protect the towns along the Nagold River from flooding, were already in place at the beginning of the 20th century. However, it took another 65 years before groundbreaking took place. The Nagold Dam was finally put into operation in 1971. Of course, the Nagold Dam, which holds approximately 5.6 million cubic meters of water, can do much more than just protect against flooding. It balances water levels during prolonged droughts and generates environmentally friendly electricity – thanks to a turbine at the foot of the dam.
