When Erik Zabel was still active, this route was part of the Germany Tour. Nevertheless, it is one of the more moderate climbs in the northern Black Forest and the gradient is very even. So it is a wonderfully smooth ride. From the church in Bad Rippoldsau to the Zwieselberg town sign it is exactly 5.9km. And when you reach this town sign you have completed the elevation gain. Most people will continue on to Freudenstadt, from Zwieselberg it is a slight up and down, you actually stay at the same altitude the whole time until the turnoff to Schömberg at Lauferbrunnen.
The small L404 signs help as a little motivational boost, because they also show the distance kilometers from the Bad Rippoldsau church. And so you can easily see that when you reach the first hairpin bend you have already covered more than 2km, i.e. a good third of the way.

The Zwieselberg (845m) connects the Wolftal, a side valley of the famous Kinzig valley, with Freudenstadt. A relaxed and nice ascent, the 5% cut says it all.
