The Ramburg above the Dernbachtal is easy to hike and therefore perfect for families with small children. Next door can be strengthened at the Ramburgschenke typical Pfälzer home cooking and Rieslingschorle.

  • The Ramburg was probably built in the 12th century to protect the Trifels.
Next to the castle is the Ramburgschänke.

  • From the ruins you have a great view of the three-castle-Trinity. The ruin lies at 444 m above sea level.

  • The ruin of the Höhenburg rises in the eastern part of the Palatinate Forest at a height of about 500 m on the western foothills of the Kalkofenberg.

Nearby is the Zimmer (manns) Platz from the time the castle was built, where the Landauer Hütte is located. The ruin can be reached via forest paths and hiking trails from there, from the Drei Buchen pass or from Dernbach. Parking spaces are available directly at the Dernbacher Haus and at the driveway to the latter. The ascent from there to the castle ruins is signposted and is also highly recommended as a family excursion destination.

The Ramburg was built as a Reichsburg to protect the Reichsburg Trifels under the Hohenstaufen in the 12th century. The Reichsministeriales can be traced back to 1163.

In 1519, Hans von Ramburg, the last member of the Ramburger noble family, sold his castle to the Dalbergers. Six years later, the castle burned down completely during the Peasants' War.

In 1540 the ruins were bought by the Counts of Löwenstein. After it was completely destroyed by a lightning strike in 1560, it was rebuilt as a residential castle.

It was looted but not destroyed during the Thirty Years War.

It remained inhabited as an official residence until 1638, but it fell into more and more decay and was used as a quarry at the beginning of the 18th century.

  • The Ramburg is always worth a visit, not only because of the nearby taverns. In addition to the towering walls of the wall and the almost completely preserved shield wall, especially the large cellar vault carved entirely from the rock is very impressive and provides some cooling in the hot summer months after the ascent.

As always, I have attached, if available, one of the nice videos of the Palatine original Norbert Heugel.

    Have fun watching

  • From the castle you have a great view of Trifels, Anebos and Münz. The castle cellar is also interesting. The light switch is as soon as you come down the stairs on the left.

  • This castle is worth seeing. A sensation for young and old explorers!
Detailed information can be found on an information board there. About the exciting history of extensions and conversions; the changing owners with stories written by life, politics, natural events and social upheavals.
The shield wall is still 18 meters high. You can walk around the castle and also into the cellar, which was carved into the rock and has the astonishing dimensions of 18 by 10 meters. The different parts of the castle are described on the back of the information board.
And you have a good view of the valley here.
