Anyone who strolls through the Chamissokiez in Kreuzberg gets a good impression of Berlin 100 years ago. Like a kind of open-air museum, the cobblestones, the lanterns (albeit without gas), the stucco facades, the forbidden neon signs and the manufactured balconies are reminiscent of days gone by. If you think away the cars and imagine horse-drawn carriages, you can almost imagine the Berlin that Heinrich Zille captured in his drawings and photographs in the 1920s.
