As I'm taking more photos than usual today in this great landscape, a few sporty hikers rush past me without enjoying the view over the Ramsau plateau and the jagged rock faces. A few benches and tables with local sayings on them line the sometimes steep but never really difficult climb.
The climb through the pine alleys and the fascinatingly shaped rock columns on the Jungfrauensteig is pleasantly mild in the back sun.

A hike over the Jungfrauensteig is ideal to get an overview of the region of the Dachstein mountains. It starts at the hiking car park at the Gasthaus Edelbrunn, over steep paths it goes past the "Steinernen Jungfrauen" and the Gamsfeldund to the highest point directly on the rock faces of the Dachsteingebirge. You follow the mountain path over the Brandriedel to the Austriahütte with museum.
There are two alternatives for the way back:
1. Via the Brandalm and the Dachsteinhaus mostly on a forest path or
2. Continue on narrow and sometimes steep paths from the Austriahütte via the Rosegger-Steig...

That was a tough tour 🥵
BUT you can't get these views without sweating 😅 Sturdy shoes and surefootedness are definitely required for the up and down.
