The fantasy castle ruins, designed from the romantic notions of the 19th century, is definitely a nice detour. The signage explains which facilities actually existed in the area. The facility is located in the forest above Bad Schandau and is about a 45-minute walk from Altendorf via the Panoramaweg.

The castle warden Schomberg is located on the Schandauer Schlossberg. In the 14th/15th In the 19th century the castle warden was important to protect the Hohe Straße coming from Lusatia and to secure the Schandau trading center. Mainly salt, grain and wood were shipped there. The castle fell into disrepair over the centuries. In the years 1882/83 a small tower and an artificial ruin were rebuilt for romantic and tourist reasons. The stone material from the original castle was used for this purpose.
