Hidden in the southern part of the labyrinth of streets of Páno Léfkara is the magnificent church of Timiou Stavrou (Holy Cross Church). It dates back to the 13th century, and some of the frescoes inside date from 1760.

Páno Léfkara (Greek Πάνω Λεύκαρα, often just Lefkara) is a mountain town in the Larnaka district of Cyprus. The town has been a member of the European Charter – Villages of Europe, a group of rural communities from all 28 EU countries, since 2004.
The Timiou Stavrou church (or Holy Cross Church) from the 13th century is striking. There are frescoes in the church from 1760. A wooden, silver-plated cross is kept in the crypt, which is said to contain a piece of the real cross of Jesus.
By the way: when the Pope is on duty in church, you can calmly observe him in his humility and manner of worship.
