The Elbe divides here. Stromelbe and Alte Elbe flow around the Rotehorn Island. Very nice, quiet place.

The Rothehornspitze not only marks the southern end of the city park of the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, but also splits the Elbe into two arms. The eastern arm, the Alte Elbe, marks the original course of the river and is now a nature reserve. The Elbe arm that runs west of the Rothehorn Island was created in 1705 and the course of the Elbe was artificially diverted. In the course of industrialization, a large inland port was built on this arm from which the goods and raw materials produced in Magdeburg were transported all over the world. From the Rothehornspitze you get a beautiful view over the two green banks of the river.
