Behind the New Palace is a cast iron fountain in the Empire style. On a round stone base with four water-spouting lions, there is a square pillar shaft, crowned with an eagle. It bears the Württemberg coat of arms on the front and back and King Friedrich's name on the side. Around the pillar shaft are oak garlands and the golden eagle order, underneath are dolphins with trident. An identical version is in the courtyard of the Ludwigsburg castle.

What annoys me the most is that this well-made fountain is defaced by hacks who think they are graffiti artists.

In the middle of the academy garden is the academy fountain (also known as the lion fountain). It was created in 1811 by Nikolaus Friedrich von Thouret for King Friedrich. There are shady plane trees around the fountain. Fountains and plane trees are still at their original location.
The namesake of the academy garden is no longer available today. From 1775 to 1959, the building of the academy or the Hohen Carlsschule, a military academy and later university, was located on the site of today's academy garden. In 1959, the ruins of the building, which was partially destroyed in the Second World War, were demolished.
There is a model near the fountain that shows the former Academy buildings.
