Lisberg Castle is one of the oldest castle complexes in the Steigerwald and was first mentioned in a document from 820. As Gaugrafenburg der Babenberger it served the security of the Volkfeldgau. As a fief of the Catholic prince-bishops of Würzburg and at the same time a fief of the Protestant market counts of Ansbach, it was never destroyed. The cunning Lisberger, who sat between these two chairs, moved to the chair that was the cheapest in times of need. This was the only way that Lisberg Castle was the only one of 32 castles in the Steigerwald to survive all wars without damage. The oldest building of the castle is the Romanesque keep with its dark court prison. The inner castle gate is also Romanesque. The adjoining women's house is Gothic, while the exterior of the Palas is Renaissance in around 1600. His most beautiful rooms are the huge castle kitchen and the knight's hall, which Otto Philipp von Münster had remodeled in 1776. In the last eleven centuries, the Frankish noble families of Thünfeld, von Giech, von Aschhausen, von Spleen and many others lived here. The most important gentlemen of the Lisberg Castle were the barons of Münster. The last noble owners were the princes of Castell, in 1968 the castle went into private ownership.

Lisberg Castle is an early medieval spur castle on a mountain spur at 328 m above sea level. NN in the Bavarian municipality of Lisberg, Bamberg district. The castle is one of the oldest preserved castles in Germany and is the only undestroyed castle in the Steigerwald.

The large castle complex is considered a Romanesque complex; its oldest buildings, which also include the keep and parts of the gatehouse, date back to the 12th century. The main castle is separated from the outer castle by a ditch (with round tower and gate with the coat of arms of those of Giech "1521"). The moat of the outer bailey is still preserved. The core and the northern part of the outer bailey are surrounded by a kennel.

The castle is privately owned and can be viewed by appointment or booked for events.
