Bike Touring Highlight
Granted, the journey was very difficult. Especially as we were loaded as a long-distance travelers with plenty of luggage. But once you have climbed the observation tower over the tops of the trees, the breathtaking view compensates for all the hardships.

The approximately 22-meter high wooden observation tower offers a great view over the Elbe and the Lenzener Wische. From here you can not only watch the goose and sea eagle go over the Elbe. On clear days, the view sweeps over Lake Rudower near Lenzen, the dune near Dömitz or the winding towers of the salt mine in Gorleben.
Only a few meters away towers the 344 meter high radio mast "Gartow 2" in the sky. This was built between 1977 and 1978 and made possible for the first time, together with the former radio relay system Berlin-Frohnau, a trouble-free communication between West Berlin and West Germany without recourse to infrastructure of the former GDR.

From the wooden observation tower on the Höhbeck one has a beautiful view over the Elbe and the Lenzener Elbe valley floodplain on the other side of the Elbe (in Brandenburg). Next to the observation tower there is also a cozy, small cafe (coffee garden Schwedenschanze). The observation tower can be reached via a road (there is also a parking lot at the observation tower) or via hiking trails. The landscape in the area is very beautiful.
