A battle took place near Kunersdorf near Frankfurt (today Kunowice in the area of the communal de Słubice) on August 11 and 12, 1759, in which the Prussian king Frederick II suffered his worst defeat in the Seven Years' War. A golden tobacco tin that held a lead bullet saved his life. Ewald von Kleist, the author of the epic natural poem "Spring", was not spared. On August 24, 1759, Ewald Christian von Kleist died and was buried there in Frankfurt (Oder), remembered by the Kleist tower, which was opened to the public in 1892. A bronze plaque with orientation arrows on the focal points of the Battle of Kunersdorf was placed on its viewing platform. The 21 m high tower with the associated restaurant was a popular destination. In February 1945 it was blown up by the Wehrmacht. It is planned to rebuild the tower true to the original.

A wildly romantic square with the remains of the old Kleist Tower. This tower was supposed to be restored many years ago, but unfortunately, nothing has happened to date.
