Gut Karlshöhe was built as a farm in 1850, was a state property in Hamburg and is now the Hamburg environmental center and the seat of the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation.

The estate now covers an area of around 9 hectares. The area is accessed via a circular route. You can see examples of different environmental technologies:

a 160 m² photovoltaic system made up of 128 polycrystalline modules with a maximum output of 21.8 kWp on the barn.

a glass energy house which shows a fuel cell, a combined heat and power plant, a pellet boiler and a solar thermal system

a 4000 m³ water-storing multifunctional heat storage partially buried in the ground

a system for rainwater utilization and water treatment using a plant-based sewage treatment plant.

In addition, there are various ecosystems on the site such as a sheep pasture, a small forest, a farm garden and a orchard. The administration of the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation and a seminar room are located in the former manor house.

The former stable building now houses the two-storey exhibition "Season Hamburg". There is a bistro and another seminar room on the ground floor. In addition to the exhibition, there is also the children's research workshop on the upper floor. The former barn is used as a place for readings, concerts and other events.

You can easily spend some time on this farm. There is a lot to discover - not just for the little ones.

The estate with its large adjacent green areas can be easily explored via a circular path. You can find out more about different environmental technologies, such as the glass energy house, which produces its energy completely CO²-neutral, or about a huge water treatment plant that collects rainwater using a plant-based sewage treatment plant, which is used to water the plants.

In addition, different ecosystems have been created over the years, such as a sheep pasture, a large orchard with an adjacent farm garden and a small mixed forest.

The former stable building of the poultry farm now houses the permanent exhibition "Jahreszeit-Hamburg", a children's research workshop and seminar rooms.

The "Kleinhuis" bistro is also located on the ground floor.

If you would like to find out more about the extensive grounds, you can take a look at the overview plan.
