The Upper Pfauenteich is a small dam east of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This artificial pond was created by Upper Harz miners in the 16th or 17th century as part of the Upper Harz Water Regale. Today, it still serves as a flood protection pond for the town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, and is also used for swimming and fishing. Like all structures of the Upper Harz Water Regale, the Upper Pfauenteich has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rammelsberg Mine, Old Town of Goslar, and Upper Harz Water Management since 2010.
