The Semmelwieser Pond is one of the many former mining ponds in the Upper Harz region. It is located in a vast forest area northwest of Buntenbock near Federal Highway 241. Its original purpose was to supply water to the mines of the Rosenhöfer Zug west of Clausthal. The pond dam was initially built in 1691 using traditional methods and later modernized. The Striegelhaus (curb house) was added directly to the dam crest, as can still be seen today.Originally, the artificial body of water was called "Neuer Flammbacher Teich" (New Flammbach Pond) and later "Samuelwieser Teich" (Samuelwieser Pond). The latter name probably evolved into the current name "Semmelwieser Teich" due to transcription errors over time.Source: harzlife.de/teiche/semmelwieser-teich.html
