Historic Towpath (Kosterbrücke to Blankenstein Lock)

Hikers with long distances will shy away from the towpath, because things are not going well on the old, fat cobblestones. In many cases, however, a footpath has formed next to it that is easier to walk. In any case, the towpath in its absolute proximity to the river is very attractive and offers wonderful views over the Ruhr and the countryside, Blankenstein Castle is a highlight.

The towpath is very interesting historically. One can hardly imagine the difficult work of the skippers. The 4km long path, laid out with uneven stones, is sometimes very slippery and muddy. Solid, hard-wearing footwear is essential. Unfortunately, you have to look down more often than up.
