The Sustenpass on the main road 11 connects the canton of Uri with the canton of Bern. The pass road is 45 km long and is one of the newer in the Swiss Alps. It was built between 1938 and 1945. Because it mainly serves tourism, it is usually only open from June to October. The road begins in Wassen on the northern ramp of the Gotthard Pass and leads through the lying in Meiental villages Meien and Färnigen with a maximum of 9 percent slope. The pass is underpassed at 2224 m in a crest tunnel. At the west ramp in the Bernese Oberland, the descent with 9 percent on the stone glacier passes by the places Gadmen and Nessental in Gadmertal.

The Sustenpass is a must. Great in combination with Furka and Grimselpass.

The Steingletscher: That was once upon a time, so to speak. In around 30 years, this once impressive glacier melted dramatically.

Nice pass with many small beautiful tunnels.

If you want to drive the big round with the Sustenpass - Furkapass - Grimselpass, you should be well trained and plan some time. This is a difficult round but also highly recommended.
