Emsaue - Bockholter Berge nature reserve

Simply enjoy walking along the paths through the heath.

"... The Bockholter Berge nature reserve is a nature reserve of around 61 hectares in the Steinfurt district. It is located east of the Greven district of Gimbte, between the Ems and the Schiffahrter Damm. To the north and west is the Emsaue nature reserve.
At the end of the last ice age, glacier meltwater was transported away by the Ems, depositing layers of sand that form the Bockholter Berge. Until 1850, the area was an open heathland, which was almost completely reforested by around 1900. In 1939, the area was declared a nature reserve and is therefore one of the oldest nature reserves in the Steinfurt district. ..."

The Bockholter Mountains are a truly worthwhile hiking area. But that has already got around, it gets very crowded sometimes.
