After the Hussite wars, the Michaeliskapelle was built here as a thank you. Later, the construction of the tower of the current church began in 1495. The nave was built in 1520. In the Second World War, the church lost the tower hood. Today it is a fantastic picture along with the water art.

In addition to the old water art, the Michaeliskirche is the postcard motif of the city of Bautzen par excellence. It was first mentioned in 1473.

The church was built after 1450 in front of the city wall over an old Spree crossing, according to legend, as a thank you from the citizens for the rescue of the Archangel Michael during the Hussite attack in 1429.
