Brooklyn Prospect Park's North Entrance is between Brooklyn Prospect Park and Grand Army Plaza. Grand Army Plaza serves as a memorial to Union defenders of the Civil War. This formal entrance provides a grand and scenic gateway to the park, complemented by a greenmarket held every Saturday. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux over a thirty-year period (1865-1895), Prospect Park has become a premier destination in Brooklyn. Spanning 526 acres, the park features an intricate watercourse, Brooklyn's last significant forest, a zoo, the nation’s first urban Audubon Center, an ice rink, a bandshell, a carousel, and numerous athletic and recreational facilities.
