The mill is named after the hamlet of Blaar, which is located east of Tongeren. It was a village that was part of the City Freedom of Tongeren, but was added to the city of Tongeren around 1800. The oldest mention dates from 1235, as molendinum de Blale. In the following centuries the mill was mentioned repeatedly.

In 1970, the Jeker was canalized, and the bed was moved, so that the mill can no longer operate. The mill pond was preserved. Since then, electric milling has been carried out. Since 1995, the mill has only been used as a residential home.
