From 1650 to 1838, Escheburg was an important post station on the route from Lauenburg to Hamburg. After the last Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg died in 1689, the town of Escheburg also fell to Brunswick-Lüneburg. In 1705, the Elector of Hanover inherited the land. This marked the beginning of the "Hanoverian" period, evoked by the so-called Welfenbrücke (Guelph Bridge) of 1777 in the Vossmoor district. A new administration was introduced, and the many parcels of land were "linked" into larger units. This is how the current landscape of the fields with their hedgerows and redders came to look.
