There are tons of exciting adventures lurking at the gates of Hamburg. For example the ruined forest in the Besenhorster Sandberge. What can you imagine by that? Well, it is a quiet and idyllic forest with great sand dunes and the ruins of an old powder factory overgrown by dense vegetation. The comfort that the magical place currently exudes did not apply here in the past. Because in the war years this area housed the location of a large powder manufacturing plant in which gunpowder for military purposes was produced. At times even the employment of forced laborers and prisoners of war cast a dark shadow over the history of this site. But with the end of the Second World War, the unfortunate history of the factory came to an end with a bomb attack.
