Stands on Großflecken built in 1886 when NMS experienced its industrial boom.
January 7, 2023
The old post office building at Großflecken 25-27, built between 1884 and 1886, formerly housed the Imperial Post Office, which was inaugurated on October 1, 1886. Like the old town hall, which was built a little later, the post office was built in the neo-Gothic style (North German brick Gothic).
The house in Neumünster was one of 2,000 postal buildings that were built in Germany during the term of office of Postmaster General von Stephan. On the roof of the old post office there is a square platform that formed the starting point for the Neumünster telephone network. Its history began in 1888 with just 25 participants from the city area.
During post office times, the counter hall was to the left of the entrance and the head's apartment to the right. After the main post office moved to Friedrichsstrasse in 1988/89, the building on Großflecken was redesigned into the Alten-Post-Passage in the postmodern style with shops and restaurants and opened on October 15, 1989. In particular, the ground floor and the courtyard were extensively renovated. The facade, whose decorative elements were damaged in the Second World War, was also completely renovated as part of the construction work.

Quite striking. Red brick, ornaments, turrets... Simply worth seeing.
