The fishway for the swallow
The city pond was created by monks in the 11th century to use water power to grind grain. The traffic jam was in the area of today's Lütjenstraße,
where there was a mill until about 30 years ago.
The monks also dug a relief canal and improved flood safety using a sluice. The relief canal still exists today as a lock.
Dams prevent fish and small animals on their natural, vital migrations.
At the fishway, the large difference in height at the weir is overcome by several pools arranged on a sloping concrete floor. The water is flowing with this one
inserted meander fish pass through vertical slits from basin to basin. The floor is stepless and covered with gravel, so that smaller animals can also move without barriers. In the Mäander® fishway, there are rows of rounded ones
Pool shapes next to each other, so that there is a flow-calmed quiet zone in the middle of each pool. The Mäander® fishway thus imitates the flow areas of a meandering, meandering river on a small area. The Mäander® fishway is protected by patent and
