The Howaldtswerke settled in today's Dietrichsdorf district in 1876. The metal foundry, which was built in 1884 by the most famous Kiel architect of his time, Heinrich Moldenschardt, and was in operation until 1980, is the last remaining building of the Howaldtswerke and represents around 100 years of industrial and shipyard history. The work room with the furnace system in the center has largely been preserved in its original form.
